Spirit of Sofia: Desert Reverie

Location: Palm Springs, CA

Date of Completion: April 2026

Size: 5’ 9” x 41' feet

Created for Spirit of Sofia in Palm Springs as part of a larger site commission, this mural was developed with full creative freedom and reflects a strong example of my site-responsive approach to public art.

Drawing from the atmosphere of the property and the surrounding desert, I imagined a feminine presence that could embody the energy of the space—serene, powerful, sensual, and elemental. Inspired by the Palm Springs landscape, I incorporated mountain forms, hummingbirds often seen around the hotel, desert flora, and flowing strands of color that suggest wind, movement, and vitality.

Part of my ongoing Feminine Divinity series, the mural uses layered color transitions, symbolic imagery, and movement to amplify emotion and transform the wall into an immersive visual experience. The composition moves between portraiture and abstraction, allowing the work to feel both grounded in place and dreamlike.

This project also involved navigating city approvals and public art requirements as part of the installation process, reflecting my experience managing both the creative and administrative demands that often accompany mural projects.

Above all, this piece stands as an example of what becomes possible when an artist is trusted with creative freedom and invited to respond deeply to a place.
